Below is a list of some of the things we are uniquely able to do with your help...

SSHCR takes in some of the most at-risk animals in the shelter system. These are animals facing euthanasia usually because they are medically needy (example: elderly, pregnant/new mother's, broken bones, severe periodontal disease, chronic illness, genetic defects, etc.) and many other rescues do not have the time, knowledge or resources to help.

Hospice program for elderly pets. Each pet (unless otherwise requested by the foster family) has their own Amazon Wish List of items that are not urgently needed but would be nice to have. We want them to live out their final days, weeks, months, etc. being spoiled and adored. In addition, when a hospice resident passes away, we provide the option to have the pet privately cremated and a clay paw print for the foster family as a small token of our appreciation.

Furever Resident program for behaviorally challenged pets. These little one's also have their own Amazon Wish List. Wish List links can be found here.
Below is a list of some of the things we're doing to specifically make our communities a better place for 2 and 4-legged citizen's!

Provide dog and/or cat food for low-income families.

Pay part or all of the cost of spay/neuter and vaccine services for dogs and/or cats of low-income families.

Provide microchipping services for dogs and/or cats of low-income families.

Feral cat colony support including food, spay/neuter, vaccines and microchips.

**It is truly with great sadness that we have to discontinue this program. Unfortunately, we have had several people take their pre-paid for certificates and then not show up to their appointment and not returning the certificate for someone else to take advantage of. This not only wastes our time and funds but also wastes the time of the Veterinary clinic.
For this reason, we no longer feel that this is the best use of our funds. We are still willing to help families with Chihuahua & Chihuahua Mixes in the area with the cost of their spay/neuter at a veterinary clinic that accepts debit/credit card payment over the phone AFTER the procedure has been completed. We will pay a maximum of $100 for the procedure only. Additional services or items rendered (e-collar, laser therapy, etc.) will be at the owner's expense.**
